Leon Lloyd
FOUNDER

Leon had a successful rugby career signing professionally for Leicester Tigers at the age of 16. This was where he and Mitch first met and where they both played together in the centre (Latin translation = Centrum). Leon’s career at Leicester and Gloucester culminated in winning 6 Premiership titles, 2 Domestic Cups and back-to-back Heineken Cup trophies. He also represented the Barbarians on 5 international tours and has proudly represented England at every age group level making his full international debut against South Africa in 2000.

As one of the Co-Founders and CEO of the Switch the Play Foundation, Leon led the UK’s first charity that focuses on assisting athletes and members of the military with their transition and development into the next phase of their lives. Having successfully transitioned into the world of business himself, he published his first book, ‘From Boot Room to Boardroom, where career transition is the main focus.

Combining his passion for sport and business, during his own transition out of sport, he went on to graduate gaining a First-Class (Hons) degree in Business Leadership and Management. His final dissertation topic focused on how sports clubs and organisations can better help prepare their athletes for life after sport. Building on that, Leon graduated with an MBA, earning a Distinction grade where his thesis again focused on career transition and the employability traits of elite athletes. Feeling that more could still be done, Leon recently graduated with his PhD. He spent considerable time and effort researching how employers can leverage the highly sought-after traits of high performing individuals from the worlds of elite sport and the military. He is now a published author, academic and thought leader in the career transition space.

Since 2020, he has formed part of a Government’s Veterans Advisory Board, that is tasked with enhancing the UK Government’s commitment to veterans and service leavers.
